TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The crash happened around 8:10 a.m. Tuesday, as Tucson police officers responded to a call of a motorcyclist crash with serious injuries on Valencia, between Tucson Boulevard and Country Club.

Officers arrived on scene to find 23-year-old Juan Manuel Mosqueira in the roadway. Though several people rendered first aid, he was declared dead shortly after Tucson Fire crews arrived on scene, according to a recent TPD release.

According to TPD Traffic Investigations Unit detectives, Mosqueira had been traveling eastbound on Valencia at a high rate of speed. Witnesses said they saw the motorcycle switching lanes and passing multiple vehicles along the road. Mosqueira was approaching 3000 East Valencia Road, when he collided with a garbage truck that had been trying to make a left turn out of a parking lot.

TPD officials say Mosqueira was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

No citations were issued at the scene, according to the TPD post, and the investigation is ongoing.

Detectives with Traffic Investigations Unit believe that speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

Valencia Road both east and westbound was closed for several hours.
